Dementors are amongst the foulest creatures that walk this earth, they are foul and terrible creatures and a perfect costume for Halloween!

Do you think Dementors are scary? I do. Besides some horrifying abilities, they are capable of using ordinary wizard’s magic, perhaps this is through a form of telekinesis, as was evidenced by a Dementor that beckoned the door of the train to open in “Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban” when it came to attack Harry.

The only way it appears to be able to overcome them is to use a very advanced and challenging charm, “the Patronus Charm.”

They are at least somewhat able to feel pain and pleasure, and also intelligent enough to be greedy. They obeyed the instructions from the Ministry of Magic for years, this was due to the fact that in payment for guarding Azkaban they were provided with sustenance.

Dementors are thought to grow like fungus in the dark and dankest places and they create a dark and dense chilly fog. Also they are unable to correctly sense thoughts and emotions of a person when they morph him or herself into a specific animal, which allowed some, like Sirius Black, to momentarily avoid their influence.

They are creatures whose presence would be felt before they are consciously seen.

It is very difficult to ascertain what their features are like, because they conceal themselves entirely under flowing black hooded cloaks. Whilst it is never actually stated, it is believed that Dementors are a created being rather than one that occurs naturally. Though this is somewhat offset by a statement in “Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince” that the Dementors are breeding, which rather leads to idea that they are in fact created naturally.

These guardians of Azkaban are soul suckers that live off people’s worst fears. They are creatures who can suck all happiness and the very soul of a person, and force them to recall their most horrible memories they had in their lives. Wizards and Muggles will go insane when they are in their presence for some time. Nightmarish in their appearance and have the capability of reducing a human to an empty shell by kissing them,

Although the Dementors are supposed to be seeking Sirius Black, they appear to have a fixation with Harry, to the point of attempting to give him the Dementor kiss rather than to Sirius when they are both trapped.

These are perhaps the most sinister of all the magical creatures in Rowling’s world. Only wizards can see them; they are invisible to Muggles, even if all mortals are affected by them.

These are creatures that have a preference for the dark rather than light. A Patronus is far too much light for them, since a patronus has to include a very happy memory, it is far too much for Dementors.

The new Dementors are much more aggressive, which makes them far more frightening and the change from the old to the new signifies that the they are starting to change sides, once being under the control of the Ministry of Magic, and now slowly turning to support Voldemort.

Dress up in a Dementor costume and join forces with the Ministry or Lord Voldemort.
